960 Grid Actions

Always looking to increase my level of productivity, I made a quick Photoshop Action that is based on the 960 Grid System. Instead of keeping track of a template file, I thought it would be easier to just make an action that would do the same thing.

The action creates a new file with (almost) the same dimensions as the 960gs templates. So, what are you waiting for? Download the action, install it in your Presets > Actions folder in Photoshop and load it.

Once you install it, switch to Photoshop. Open your actions pane, on the actions menu, Load Action, browse to the newly installed action and click Load.

Hi Ben,
Thanks for sharing this grid actions with the rest of us. Is there a way to the action prompt for canvas size? Your 1020×700, specially the height value, is rather short for the way I work. I tried to change the first “Make”, but found out that others steps are somehow related to the document size.

Best,
B.

Hey Bruno,
Glad you like it. I may take a look at something like this in the future. In the meantime, I suggest changing the canvas size after the action is finished running and just transforming the “Grid Overlay” layer to match your set height. I made them all on one layer so that it would be easy to adjust if needed. I’ll let you guys know if I update it.

Hi!
First of all really awesome to put the actions out here! I have problems touhg with downloading the actions cause now they just appear in a new window.
Shouldn´t it be a zipped file? I downloaded the 960 ggrid from the webpage. Can I use it for this tutorial as well? Would appreciate any help.

Thanks a lot,
Andreas

Sorry you are having trouble downloading it. A zip isn’t necessary since it’s just one tiny file. After you download it you can open it with Photoshop or double click to install it. It’s also available as part of the 960.gss download.
